About Me
My Work
For me, photography is about viewpoint, and my personal relationship to a scene. The visual stimulus itself is secondary to this relationship.
"Photograph what you feel, not what you see..." a famous photographer once told me.
My style is influenced by the work of these noted photographers, Eugene Richards, Robert Frank, Joseph Koudelka, Gary Winnogrand and Bruce Davidson. These I consider to be the great documentary photographers of our time.
I also admire works by Sebastion Salgado, Mary Ellen Mark, David Allen Harvey, and Harold Feinstein.
My gear is simple. One camera and one lens, a Leica digital body, workng in close with a 28mm or 35mm lens, using only available light. Much of my work is Black and White, which I believe to be the true poetry of photograpy.
Biography
I began taking photos in High School, working as a photographer for my local hometown newspaper, the Hereford Brand. While attending college, I worked for the Amarillo Daily News as a reporter/photographer, and also covered events for Associated Press and United Press International.
After college, I became a professional pilot, flying for Frontier, America West, USAir and American airlines. I retired in 2009 as a Senior Captain, with 35 years of flying.
In retirement, I do documentary style wedding photography and magazine asignments. Member Wedding Photojournalist Assn., WPJA
Over the years, I have also been fortunate to attend workshops and seminars with many of the great photographers I've admired.
